I genuinely don't think that in all my years of antique dealing I've ever owned a set of chairs quite like these.
This remarkable set of 24 solid oak dining chairs is a real rarity. Each chair features a beautifully sculptured solid oak seat—an incredibly unusual detail that would have been both time-consuming and expensive to produce when they were made around 1900–1905.
These chairs are true statement piece. Imagine all 24 gathered around one table—they would look absolutely magnificent. They are also quite tall, giving them a wonderful presence, especially when pushed neatly beneath a large dining table.
Before they leave us, we will thoroughly check every chair to ensure it is structurally sound and ready for many more years of use.
Naturally, after well over 100 years of life, a number of the decorative finials at the tops of the chair backs have picked up small knocks and chips. We will not be replacing these minor imperfections. Instead, we will carefully wax and colour them to blend sympathetically, allowing them to remain as part of the chairs' history and character.
To splice in new pieces of oak, hand-carve them, stain, and polish them to match would be an extremely time-consuming and costly process, making the chairs considerably more expensive. After all, these are genuine antiques, and their honest signs of age are part of what makes them so special. Should a buyer prefer a fully restored finish, we would be happy to provide a separate quotation.
Ideally, we would like to sell the complete set of 24 together, as finding such a large, matching set is exceptionally rare.
