New Project: The Bull & Swan, Burghley Posted 18 Aug 2025

Dating back to the late 17th Century, The Bull & Swan once served as the informal headquarters of The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam, a gentleman’s drinking club founded in 1684. Members adopted animal nicknames like Lion, Lamb and Unicorn, many of which live on in the naming of the inn’s nine guest rooms today!

Perched just steps from Burghley House, this inn stands at the intersection of town and country, a place where ancient beams, stonework and architecture meet modern touches and comfort. Recognised as Best Town Pub at the Great British Pub Awards 2024, it pairs real ales, gastro offerings & luxury bedrooms with a kitchen garden.

Traditional Classics: Elevating Atmosphere & Comfort

  • Sheldon low stools (with swivel upholstered seats) - crafted from solid oak with turned legs and cross stretchers; these versatile stools suit relaxed settings like show on images of the bar area below.
  • Audley high stools - elevated seating that balances traditional style with modern comfort.

  • Kitchen high stools -  Made from solid beech with the option of polished or upholstered seats to suit your required look.

These handcrafted pieces blend seamlessly with the inn’s aesthetic, from their oak finishes, leather upholstery and classic design that mirrors the timbered, stone-lined interiors and cosy history-steeped corners.
