We want our customers to enjoy our furniture for as many years as possible, this is why our approved method to clean our furniture is by using warm soapy water dispensed from a spray bottle and dried off with a clean, dry cloth… Soap and warm water, that’s it! We also recommend that you always clean the whole surface rather than focusing on one area, to avoid any patches of discoloration over time and to wipe away any spillages as soon as possible.
The most common cause of damage to tabletops in hospitality settings is the use of harsh chemical cleaning products. As standard here at Taylor’s Classics, all our oak tabletops are supplied with a PU lacquer finish. Over a period of time the harsh cleaning products are likely to break down and soften the lacquered surfaces, resulting in a ‘sticky’ feel. Softened lacquer is also more likely to peel or discolour over time and more easily marked.
Maintaining your tabletops
To maintain a shiny surface on your tops, we recommend using a small amount of beeswax polish worked firmly into the surface. Tip: do not use too much polish, as it will sit on the wooden surface and eventually build up a dirty film.
Preventative Care
Moisture and heat can damage any wood finish. Protect your furniture by using coasters and placemats to prevent marks, stains and scratches.
Maintain consistent humidity levels to minimise seasonal expansion and contraction of wood and prevent warping and major cracks or splits.
Over time, air and sunlight can in some cases change the colour of lacquered or paint finishes. Occasionally rotate the items placed on your wood furniture to allow a more uniform colour to develop.
