This is a favourite of mine. It is a wonderful original colour and has such fantastic shaped winged ends and the colour and patination is too die for. Painting pine furniture to look like oak was very popular in the 18th and 19th century. Generally found in the servants quarters, or in this case in the men only working class"back bar", it was skilfully done because like today oak is much more expensive than pine. Can you imagine the number of stories this old bench could tell? Sitting alongside the fire of the local boozer, old Fred and Jack sitting there. One smoking his pipe, the other his woodbines. Sipping a pint of mild and sharing a patch of pork scratching. For me it is a wonderful piece of history and would look great and be the centre piece of any pub, restaurant or hotel.
